The story of the "space Mowgli" - the Kid, a human child raised by a mysterious alien race... The story of astronauts trying through the Kid to get in touch with his "tutors"... One of the most poetic and most fascinating stories of the Strugatsky brothers... This film is a story of a group of astronauts exploring the planet in search of suitable living conditions for future inhabitants of the Earth. On one of the planets they find a ship that has crashed, the crew members of this ship died in the accident, but according to a message from Earth, there was also a 5-year-old boy on board - the son of the dead astronauts, and the search team does not find him among the dead. However, soon the crew of the search party meets with an 11-year-old boy armed with two "magic" branches. Dirty, feral, naked, he is studying the "aliens" who appeared on the planet, and they are trying to establish contact with him in order to find out how he managed to survive on an alien planet after losing his parents. From his stories and observation of him, the search party begins to understand that there is also a mysterious alien race on the planet, which helped the boy to survive...
