XVI century. On the eve of his return to Europe after a long stay in South America as part of the Portuguese and Spanish expeditions of the conquistadors, the German sailor Hans Staden was captured by a hostile Indian tribe of cannibals. To avoid death, he tries to convince the Indians that he is not Portuguese (whom they considered their enemies), but French (their ally), and that God would be very angry if they ate him ...

The film is based on the international bestseller: "A reliable history and description of the country of wild, naked, harsh cannibals of the New World of America", written by Hans Staden himself about his stay in the Indian tribe Tupinamba.
